Anthem is a video installation that examines national identity and our enduring connections to where we are from. A collection of people are interviewed about their home country and they share stories and memories from their childhood about the place they love above all others. The consistent thread of ethnocentrism runs through the conversations as everyone believes where they are from is the most beautiful, the friendliest and the best place in the world. The piece ends with a cacophonous rendition of dozens of national anthems sing by the subjects and bleeding together to an impossible collection of nationalistic melodies that bear little relevance to the people themselves.
