We all have our favourite things. Why do we love them? Is it the meaning they have? Is it because we like who we become with these objects? My daughter and I decided to collaborate on this project where we invited the public to turn up for portraits with their most beloved objects. As with all my public art projects in Auckland, I was blown away by the turn out. People were queuing just to get a chance to tell their story and get a photograph with their object. From antique cameras to bunny ears, the objects were as diverse as the people who love them. Objects hold magic and can even feel sacred to the owner. My daughter and I enjoyed exploring the poetics of 'things' together.
