Identity for me has always been quite fluid. Moving countries multiple times, changing cultures and languages, jumping between careers in art, music and film, I've always understood that identity is not static or fixed. Inspired by the Kurt Vonnegut quote, "We are who we pretend to be," I wanted to invite the public to playfully explore the unchained nature of who they are. An enviable costume and prop box was all we needed to get people flocking to the public art activation on the Queens Wharf. Hundreds of people embraced the spirit and felt liberated by a wig and a hat or a gas mask and a deer head as they self directed their change of public persona. They transformed entirely, not just in look, but their personalities and energies changed as they rediscovered what children know, playing at being different people is liberating, great fun, and deeply insightful.
