When I screened Between Love&Dreaming in the ArtBox in 2013, I left some paper and pens by the door with a simple request: please write the love letter you never wrote, but wished you had. Within days I was flooded with hundreds of heartbreaking letters of staggering sincerity. Mournful, hopeful, resigned, and regretful, the letters covered the complete spectrum of human love, loss and longing. I knew I had to do something with these deeply moving letters. I worked with ArtWeek to do an installation at the Britomart station in Auckland, that included the letters along with the images of couples kissing from ‘A Thousand Lovers’. These letters make me cry every time, as they remind us how many moments go unspoken and how much is left unsaid.
