Creator of cutting edge and challenging political art that questions belief systems and how they are created by the media and society. Fundamental objective of work over last 20 years is to connect with and question the generation of meaning, both personal and political. Currently nearing completion of part-time Phd at Oxford Brookes University in Art/Sound, with a research interest in the way performance and installations can create empathy and epiphany through immersive visual and sound environments.
Hard hitting debut work in 2001, ‘Witness: AnAesthetic’ won international acclaim for its rapid fire deconstruction of the Hollywood voyeurism of violence, contrasted with the real violence of war images. Lectures concerned with conceptual themes around the creation of reality by the media, with a focus on the active deciphering and reframing of the glut of images that surround and bombard us daily.
Successful professional endeavors alongside art career, in creative industries of tv/film production, music, curation, and creative direction for major international non-profits. Lifelong professional musician with highlights that include recording with Mike Oldfield, soundtracks for BBC series, and working as a voice coach and producer for Angelina Jolie. Multiple creative projects including albums, experimental recordings, and the integration of music into immersive installations for museums and festivals. Music work includes three tracks on the Tina Turner Foundation’s Beyond Music album, ‘Same Planet’, produced by world class musician and producer Manu Katche in 2021, also singing across the album “Oracles’ in 2022, for the immersive sound ‘Tetragon Project’, producing art films for each track of the album, as well as film and music collaborations with musicians such as Juan Barallobres in Argentina, Marshall Muze in Nigeria and others. More recently won a place in a collaboration with Marshall Muze and Chylde, on the new Beyond Music album, chosen and to be produced by the multi-award-winning Nigerian producer and singer, Pheelz, who has worked with top U.S. stars such as Usher, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre. The album will feature collaborations with guest artists Angélique Kidjo, Wiyaala with guest producer Dodo, and Afrobeats hitmaker Pheelz.
Highly competent video editor with fluency across Premiere and Final Cut. Strong video and sound production skills (Logic, Protools) used for installation art works, but also in a range of professional creative projects, including directing and producing films for well known NZ bands Ahoribuzz, AnikaBoh&Hollie, and during several years work as Creative Director in NZ of the Global Poverty Project.
Significant experience working with groups of disparate people from all backgrounds. Worked freelance for aid organisations and doing logistics in Bosnia during the war, also in special project management in Poland, at the Mountain Haven Centre in Poland for Children in Crisis. Demonstrable administrative capacity managing budgets, large teams, seeking sponsorship, and delivering quality projects under deadline with limited resources.
